Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy
is the practice of using scents to bring about physical and
emotional changes in our bodies.

History

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to calm, boost or heal your mind, body, and spirit. Ancient texts from Asia, the Mediterranean, and Egypt describe the rituals involved in making healing ointments, medicated oils, poultices, and perfumes.

The Chinese and the Greeks are credited as the first civilizations to use essential oils therapeutically. The Chinese used aromatic oils for mood enhancement, while Hippocrates (Greece), dubbed the Father of Medicine, is believed to have used them for healing.

It was only In 1937, that “aromatherapy” was coined by French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse after lavender oil helped heal an infected burn.

How do you make Essential oils?

There are two ways to produce essential oils: distillation or pressing.

  • In pressing extractions, we squeeze the whole plant and collect the oil that seeps out. We then strain the oil of plant remnants and bottle it for use. It takes a lot of raw material to make a little essential oil- about 60 whole roses will be needed to produce one drop of oil.
  • When aromatic plants are distilled (usually by steam distillation), the temperature sensitive essences undergo chemical changes and turn into essential oils themselves.
  • Pure Essential Oils
  • Room Sprays
  • Candles
  • Roll Ons
  • Incenses

How does it work?

Your senses provide the brain with information about your environment. The nervous system processes smell, taste, touch, sight, and sound before providing useful information to the brain about your surroundings. Aromatherapy oils are often used by massage therapists and facialists to relax you, and some spas have HVAC systems that actually scent the air.

In humans, smell is considered to be both our most primitive and most advanced sense. It is the brain’s direct link to its environment, as anything we smell is the result of tiny particles of that substance breaking off and entering our nose. Smells bring us a direct connection to memories and emotions. Ancient traditions and practitioners have identified various healing properties within each essential oil, and they use these markers to assign beneficial uses. Some of these properties, such as anti-inflammatory and analgesic, are known in western medicine to promote targeted healing.

Types of Aromatherapy:

Just to name a few that are being used in our Fachie products...
